A new Tesco commercial has earned the UK’s largest supermarket chain criticism from the National Farmers Union.
NFU President Minette Batters wrote to Tesco over its new Food Love Stories spot entitled “Carl’s ‘All Change’ Casserole.” The ad features a father preparing a meal with Tesco’s new vegan sausages for his daughter who says she doesn’t want to eat animals anymore.
Batters says the ad “demonizes” meat. And that creates problems for Britain’s already struggling beef farmers. Earlier this year all four of the UK’s main farming unions said beef farmers were at “crisis point.” According to the BBC, farmer incomes have dropped 23 percent in the last year alone.
