I've been looking around at some of the information relating to not eating meat.
One thing sticks in my mind though, is not eating meat a choice made to avoid killing an animal or is it more than that ?
I am a meat eater, but I do try to look after the environment, I still think we can eat meat without being too destructive, afterall in nature many animals eat meat, are they not also worth saving or are they off the list ?
Humans are just animals, we are not really any more or less valuable than any other living thing, if an animal is killed in a quick humane fashion and used for food it's not what I would call unnatural or horrific. Obviously it's not an ideal situation, an ideal situation would be having the ability to eat meats without killing anything but given where meat comes from it's not really an option (that I know of).
I guess the question I'm looking to ask is basically : Why are so many against eating meat even if it's done in a humane way ? - (I would currently call the methods inhumane and mostly disgraceful - but there are ways to eat meat without buying the mass produced / farm produced products)
Just having some trouble understanding the philosophy behind it all.
I'm someone who takes actions in the name of the ELF, it was there I came across the ALF which lead me here.
Not eating meat for a lot of people is more about the animal's right to life and freedom from exploitation than just not killing it. We don't need meat and you can't be environmentally friendly whilst eating meat.

Carnivorous animals won't be adversely affected if all humans became vegan. In fact, they would be better off because farmers and fishermen wouldn't kill them as they do now to protect their flocks and other victims.
Yes, humans are just animals so why should we have the right to kill other animals just because we want to eat them? We don't need to eat them. All healthy vegans prove that we don't need to eat meat.
There is nothing humane about killing someone so you can eat them or take something they have. There can be no humane killing like that, just as there can be no humane slavery or rape.
No one has the moral right to abuse or kill anyone else. -
Back, thanks for the links and information. I have begun to make a move towards becoming a vegetarian with a view to becoming vegan in the long term.
I've watched a number of documentaries and one of the main ones that hit home was called "earthlings". I have always considered myself to be an animal lover / supporter of saving the environment. It's hard after seeing all those things to think of myself that way if I continue to eat animals.
It's a really difficult thing to do (or seems to be at this stage).
But yeah, just wanted to say thanks for the information.

Lomedin: Learned by chance that Kat Von D is vegan. Didn't have a clue who she was before.

Vegan: I'm on an antinatilist group and only found out about her on that. Had no idea who she was before as never heard of her.

cybernaut: Well, it can be a little hard for me to come here sometimes because of how negative things can get here. I realize there's much to be negative about, but it's still hard for me all the same.
