I just watched the documentary A River of Waste. I wanted to see it one more time because I wanted to understand the point they were making about the danger with having factory farms raise chickens in filthy conditions. We are risking getting a disease from the way the factory farms are being ran. The documentary is very good because they go into the issues of waste runoff into our drinking water. I never thought about me drinking water is related to where you are in relation to these massive chicken operations. You can't drink the water if you are downstream from them! It is too polluted. They also explain why the chicken produced this way is grade F quality meat. Not B, C, or grade D meat. But grade F!
Here is the point the documentary makes about the danger of these large scale filthy operations. "There is a bird flu known as H5N1. We are taking a huge risk letting the chickens be raised in overcrowded filthy conditions because this virus could jump easily many many times and possibly mutate from a bird flu to infecting humans. A deadly flu that you would basically have no chance of getting better from."
There is a whole other overwhelming issue covered in this documentary that we are overusing antibiotics that could heal sick people with, on birds used for food! We are basically wasting our medicine to produce fat chickens for profit. Because the birds get a growth spurt from being washed inside and out with antibiotics in the overcrowded and filthy factory farm. They grow to being a fat bird, but the cost is we use up our medicines that could go towards our health for this to be profit for the industry. Some of this documentary was tough to watch but I feel I know a lot more from seeing it.
No surprise there. Who would seriously expect for those profiting from torture, death and disease to do anything to stop themselves? They need to be forcefully stopped. It sickens me how humans just go along with their lives.
aroticod, it's not only chickens, but any animal industry would do that. I think it was in "Speciesism: the movie" where they show what happens to people living near a place raising and killing pigs. Also, maybe it was last year when I heard about a new super-bacteria found in China, that's what happens when you overuse antibiotics, so thanks animal abusing industries for bringing about the end of humanity. I hope that any future species intellectually advanced will remember you as the life destroyers that you truly are, and that their history books portray your insanity and how the rest of us did nothing to put an end to it but support it.
"There is no hope. Knowing that humans die untimely, by the millions, simply makes me feel a bit better. If more than, say, 2000 were killed in one go, I could smile. 20000? I might throw a party..."
