So I have done this many times. This could be drinks and a snack. Anyway, I just make a perrier water or a carbonated water that is a "natural mineral water" that is bubbly good tasting mineral water with a lemon or lime slice for a drink. So the party snack is
2-3 kinds of gourmet nuts (pistachios, cashews, peanuts, walnuts)
dried fruit (figs, apricots, dates, apples or something similar) I sometimes do dried mango, dried apple, dried papaya & recently I've found dried pears which were sweet tasting had no sugar and looked amazing and were amazing
I have done the fruit and nuts so many times I do crystallized ginger now because I can find it. It is not quite candy! It is a natural root (which is actually very healthy that way, amazingly healthy I guess) I just bought the fresh kind to try it. It is very amazing, it is a "warm spice" so I use it to just be entertaining side treat. The ginger is also perfectly vegan.. And instead of water I would now do espresso and tea. I normally think to do this kind of a thing on new years eve night for entertaining. And because this is top notch when you are shopping be sure that it is vegan...and I want fruit that is dried fruit without sugar. So that is the good kind I guess. Fruit that would be a tasting fruit would work for a celebration.
Dried fruits and nuts are so great, still people rather have some crap candy in their mouths.
Yes i totally get your point. And try the dried pears. Or maybe if you know you can find a better fruit. But I just go to health food store. They seem to be the best for some reason. But I found the pears at a grocery store. They just taste like candy if the fruit is done right. And I have been doing this for a couple of years now because I always liked raisins.
I have almost no sweet tooth, to the point where even dried fruits and such are too sweet for me... but I recently discovered freeze dried fruit, and I am *all over* that stuff, yo. I feel like they keep more of the tartness/general fruit flavor than plain ol' dried. Freeze dried peaches are especially great; but then again, I adore peaches in any state.

Wow yea I have seen that. You are living in the space age now. I tried the freeze dried mango and thought it was weird...but rather amazing! I like the mango flavor, it is kinda like orange. But the fruit is different, I think mango is better. It is just really good. It is fun to eat the dried fruit I tried stocking up and couldn't find the figs (yet??)
Hello, I am a grandma, people say a good cook. Playing with food is my passion and I will try and try and try until I perfect a recipe. I registered long time ago but could not find a topic just about recipes and I don't like to argue about veganism, I only cook that way. I am from Hungary, I live in the US (Pacific NorthWest), English is my 3rd or 4th language, so please forgive my grammar mistakes.
I had a hard time 10+ years ago when I got interested in vegan food to find cookbooks or blogs about "gourmet" cooking. So I had to figure out sauces, substitutes by myself, but I have found fantastic cookbooks and blogs to learn from the past 3-4 years. My favorites are Julie Morris (superfoods), Chris Anca (Tales of a Kitchen) and Clean books and blog by Alejandro Junger. I would say if you follow these three, you can find all the good recipes for every occasion.
OK, party snacks. I have a long list, and if you are interested, I will write more. I entertain a lot, but I also like to make these just for ourselves.
I like to use all the food I buy. I go shopping once a week, and the last days of the shopping week I have leftovers. Broccoli stems, for example. (we ate the florets steamed) I always have jalapenos in the fridge, if they are all gone, I have frozen green chili. I grate the broccoli stems, cut the hot peppers up, in a bowl. All the leftover herbs (parsley, chives, etc) can go in there, too. Leftover quinoa, about 1.5, 2 cups, cooked. Veganegg, 3 tblsp mixed with 1/2 cup water (or more? if needed) and 1/2 cup vegan cheese (recipe follows), black or white pepper, mix it together, bake in mini muffin pan (oil spray), until it looks cooked on the top.
So vegan parmesan cheese. From Julie Morris. Perfect. 2/3 cup raw cashews, 1/3 cup hemp seeds 2 tblsp nutritional yeast, 1/4 tsp sea salt, 2 tblsp white miso, 1 tblsp coconut oil. Food processor, make it a paste, mold it to a brick, freeze it. Move it to a container when it is frozen, wrapped in a parchment paper in the container. I keep this all the time in my freezer.
Quinoa muffins: nobody believes they are vegan. I used leftover anything (cauliflower, artichoke harts, kale, spinach, not just broccoli) many times, but broccoli stems are my favorites. But don't skip the hot peppers, please. Use mild chilis if you must.
Serve them hot when guests arrive.
My second favorite will be just a brown rice cracker topped with vegan cream cheese ( lots of recipes are out there, I just soak cashews for a day and vitamix them with lemon juice, garlic, nutritional yeast, and keep this mix in my fridge to use it for anything) if I add fresh chives, it tastes like expensive vegan cheese from the store. So I add the chives, put a little on a brown rice cracker. What do we have in the fridge? If pears, I spiralize pears, put on crackers. I toast pecans in a nonstick skillet, add maple syrup when I turn the heat off. Add on the crackers. A little piece of a date. If I have a zucchini, I spiralize the zucchini. Goes well with olives and sun dried tomatoes, on the chive cream cheese. If I have apples, I spiralize the apples. I toast almonds with maple syrup, add a dried cherry. Endless possibilities. Make them as the guests arrive, they last about 30 minutes and then the rice crackers get soggy.

Lomedin: Learned by chance that Kat Von D is vegan. Didn't have a clue who she was before.

Vegan: I'm on an antinatilist group and only found out about her on that. Had no idea who she was before as never heard of her.

cybernaut: Well, it can be a little hard for me to come here sometimes because of how negative things can get here. I realize there's much to be negative about, but it's still hard for me all the same.
